Exploring Mentor Texts: Reading and Writing for Real Purposes

In order for our students to succeed in today’s information laden society they must be proficient readers and writers of non-fiction/informational text.  Students need practice reading and writing for genuine purposes, and using mentor texts as models is one method to increase these skills.  This workshop will explore methods that teach and model reading and writing using a wide range of complex texts.  The institute also features presentations by several experts in the field and by award winning author, Tonya Bolden.
