Principles of Sustainability 3/11-6/20/13

This 13 session, highly interactive course is designed to provide the fundamentals of sustainability principles and practices for entry level students as well as under and unemployed adults who are in job transition from non-environmental sectors seeking grounding in sustainability principles. It covers basic sustainability principles relative to population issues, climate change, renewable energy, consumption, ecosystem threats, transportation, green design and construction, biodiversity and environmental justice. There will be two guest subject matter expert lecturers, subject matter corresponding to the curriculum, and one planned field trip (weather permitting). The instructor will support selected lectures with videos and timely source materials. This course can serve as a capstone course for students pursuing further education and training in renewable non-profit management, energy careers, green real estate, sales and marketing, banking and finance, green building design and operations, HVAC, various LEED professional accreditations as well as facility management or pursuing careers in other sustainable industries.
